The city of the Seven Mountains

De syv fjell (The Seven Mountains) surround the center of the misty harbor town of Bergen. Nestled on the country’s rocky west coast, Bergen is exciting and charming, an ideal starting point for fjord tours and cruises. Bryggen – the medieval fish market street - also known as Tyskebryggen (the German Wharf), is one of the city’s most picturesque sights. Bryggen has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1979 – a well deserved accolade, for its unique architecture.

Colonialen is the place to bring business partners or dates if you really want to impress someone. They have an eclectic wine list and a choice of 5 - 7 - or 12 course menus. Colonialen has good sommeliers, precise service and a classic take on the modern kitchen. Dress for the occasion.

One of Bergen's best Editors' Note

Acclaimed by some as by far the best restaurant in Bergen, Colonialen’s dining room sits below a wonderful gourmet shop, giving guest a clue to the cuisine there. From rich cheeses to perfect meats, the restaurant has a reputation for using the very best ingredients.

The venue does have very limited seating however, so oftentimes there is a short wait. But, just as the wine served always suits the menu selection, the service is so well suited to please customers. Recommendations for newcomers always point to the six course tasting menu paired with the perfect wine. The focus here is on quality obviously, and the restaurants reputation bears that out.
