The city of the Seven Mountains

De syv fjell (The Seven Mountains) surround the center of the misty harbor town of Bergen. Nestled on the country’s rocky west coast, Bergen is exciting and charming, an ideal starting point for fjord tours and cruises. Bryggen – the medieval fish market street - also known as Tyskebryggen (the German Wharf), is one of the city’s most picturesque sights. Bryggen has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1979 – a well deserved accolade, for its unique architecture.

Stay.com Editors' Note

Located in the old part of Bergen, Nilssen på Bryggen is one of the most famous traditional stores in the city, offering a wide selection of fabrics, textiles, knitwear, wool, souvenirs and other products from Dale of Norway.

Nilssen på Bryggen is a great place to pick up a couple of sweaters to keep out that bitterly cold winter weather, with designs featuring a combo of classical Norwegian patterns and modern styles that can only be found in Norway. Nilssen på Bryggen is located in a very charming old wooden building in the Bryggen area, next the Hanseatic Musuem by the wharf, which in itself is a great area to explore.
