A city of beautifully faded elegance

Panoramically divided by the Danube, Hungary’s capital exudes faded grandeur. Comprised of busy Pest and residential Buda, the Habsburg city of grand boulevards and elegant bridges was built in the late 1800s. With its five-star hotels, spa baths, landmark coffeehouses and key restaurants wonderfully restored, Budapest provides top-notch services. An underground counterculture and savage party scene complete the picture of this cool, modern city.

Stay.com Editors' Note

Szimpla Kert (Szimpla kertmozi) is a mixture of open air terrace, bar and cinema. Part of a growing District VII empire, Szimpla Kert conforms to a pretty simple formula: fire-sale furniture, squeaky floorboards, cheap fare and decent music.

The place is rammed on a Friday with a mix of students, backpackers and musicians, here for the live jazz. Bar service only. Summer sees the Szimpla Kert spring into action.
