Florence, home of Renaissance art and architecture

Florence has long been a popular tourist destination and continues to attract millions of visitors annually–and it’s not hard to see why. It captures the true magic of Italy, boasting the greatest collection of Renaissance art and architecture in the world, while still remaining small, charming, and walkable. Aside from its extraordinary art, Florence offers great restaurants, good shopping, and fine hotels. Avoid the summer heat and come in winter when this glorious city is relatively free of tourists.

Friendly neighbourhood trattoria Editors' Note

Trattoria del Carmine is a reliable neighborhood eatery, good for a casual, good-value lunch or dinner. The daily specials menu features seasonal ingredients such as asparagus and porcini mushrooms, while stalwarts such as ricotta and spinach-stuffed ravioli and bistecca are regular fixtures.

Puds include a delicious ‘crema’ with hot chocolate sauce. The house plonk is good, but if you want something a bit special, the wine list offers a reasonable choice.
