Avant-garde German Architecture
You’ve never imagined Germany this way. With its stunning, futuristic skyline and Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt is a lively city, where travelers can find something exciting to do every day. Rich and opulent (the financial capital of Continental Europe), Frankfurt is a city of contrasts. Alongside the most avant-garde skyscrapers, some of Germany’s oldest buildings coexist, carefully preserved, for future generations.

LAN’s main attraction is not the food on your plate but the wild and eclectic interior by Philippe Starck. Renaissance-style paintings hang upside down from the ceilings; white sculptures of heads decorate one display case; novels line a shelf.
And the toilets: individual loos come with mirrored walls, silver armchair, and swan-shaped taps that make them look like a set from a David Lynch film. The menu runs the gamut from raw oysters to Japanese sushi to fanciful Chinese fusion to basic Sichuanese. Several pages of the menu are devoted to Chinese delicacies like abalone, shark’s fin and fish maw.
The wine list offers an impressive range of European, South American and Australian choices without a Great Wall or Dynasty in sight. When it comes to ordering at LAN, it’s probably a good idea to stick to the traditional Sichuan dishes like shuizhuyu, fish cooked in a pot of oil, and kongpao chicken, where cashews replace peanuts for a richer crunch and the sauce is spicy, sweet, and slightly numbing – made by the traditional textbook method. LAN serves smart desserts, going for an all-Western selection of cakes and mousses.
