Tradition and style in a modern harbor

Hamburg’s historic origin is the river Elbe and its natural harbor, but now, life there pulses on every street as a small but buzzing metropolis. Many believe that the city is laid-back and even boring, yet a visit to the Reeperbahn’s tantalizing nightlife will quickly change one’s mind. A mixture of classes in the city give Hamburg an interestingly appealing diversity – there’s something to be discovered by everyone. The city is bustling and energetic, beloved for both its contemporary scene as well as for its cultural offerings.

Grab a beer

Grab a beer Editors' Note

If you get thirsty during your downtown Hamburg shopping extravaganza Baumann’s Bierbar is one of those quaint German cafes that serves up the country’s favorite quencher. Sitting opposite the main station, the local tavern is popular with locals too.

This beer garden slash hotel and cafe, like many such places in Europe, cannot really decide what it is. One thing you can count on though is the friendly service and the quality and coolness of the beer. Not a bad spot to take a load off, like we said.
