A 21st century destination

When the City Council made the inspired decision to appoint Peter Saville as Manchester’s Creative Director back in 2004, the man famous for his Factory Record designs had this to say: “Manchester has no longer got to compete with Liverpool and Sheffield. It has got to compete with Bilbao, Barcelona, Lille, and San Diego.” His notion of Manchester as the "original modern city” has become both its proud mark and a brave call to action, reflecting a city and population with the drive and vision to make Manchester a world-class 21st century destination, embracing the pies and kicking out the prejudice.
