The third-largest city of Sicily, Messina was founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC. This legacy is still evident in many of the city’s attractions, art, and architecture. Dedicated to Ferdinand II of Bourbon, the Statue of Messina is a gratitude sign from the people of the city.

The work or Messina based sculptor G. Prinzi, the statue was located in the city center until the fire in 1908. After that, the statue moved in the G. Minutoli Plaza.
