Oak trees and gorgeous Bay views

Across the bridge from San Francisco, Oakland has a enough for a few pleasant days. The city is home to the USS Potomac, alongside the city’s museum, art galleries, and parks. Shopping is fun in Oakland too, especially if you have a passion for hats - there is no men’s hat store quite like The Hat Guys. For gifts, souvenirs, good dining, and other shopping opportunities, follow College Avenue - it’s a local favorite.

My mom was raised in Spain, so we love shopping here for authentic Spanish ingredients like paella rice, dried ñora peppers, marinated anchovies, and my favorite almond treat, turrón. I’m still working up the courage to buy the 50-person paella pan hanging on the wall… what a fun party that would be.

For decadent paellas Editors' Note

The Spanish Table is a destination for lovers of Spanish cuisine. They offer all the ingredients for decadent paellas, but also traditional tapas, cheeses, and cured meats. They also have their own deli and grocery store, plus a counter selling clay cookware and ceramics.

The Spanish Table has an impressive selection of Spanish wines too. A selection of cooking books and Spanish music completes the offer. If you cannot visit the store in person, you can always shop online.
