Oak trees and gorgeous Bay views

Across the bridge from San Francisco, Oakland has a enough for a few pleasant days. The city is home to the USS Potomac, alongside the city’s museum, art galleries, and parks. Shopping is fun in Oakland too, especially if you have a passion for hats - there is no men’s hat store quite like The Hat Guys. For gifts, souvenirs, good dining, and other shopping opportunities, follow College Avenue - it’s a local favorite.

A family-run shop with some of the smiliest service in town, I love going here to grab a quick bite and pick up some of those hard-to-find Middle Eastern ingredients like sumac, dried lemons, and fresh, homemade flatbread.

Stay.com Editors' Note

The Middle East Market is the Berkeley destination for affordable, good Persian food and Middle Eastern goods. They have many specialties hard to procure somewhere else: lavash, sumac powder, pickled or dried lemons, and spices.

The Middle East Market also sells fresh herbs, legumes, and other fresh produce. They have delicious breads and pastries, and are well known for their Koobideh Kebabs. It is well worth it to come here for exotic flavors at low prices.
