A city of Miracoli

Unlike Florence, which is highly commercialized, Pisa is serene and laid-back. Known all over the world for its leaning tower (Torre pendente) and the Campo dei Miracoli, Pisa still stays the least-known of the Italian cities. A Rennaisance city that was once a wealthy seaport, it welcomes today tourists from all over the world with its Pisan-Romanesque style churches, the Campo Santo (the most beautiful cemetery in the world), trattorias, boutiques, and an atmosphere of cultured bohemia.

This is one of the best addresses for a quick stop. You can order great sandwiches, made with local and unique products, with original combinations. An example? Salami, walnuts and honey.

Delicious organic sandwiches

Stay.com Editors' Note

Not really a restaurant, but a sandwich and panini shop, La Carta Gialla is highly recommended if you are visiting Pisa on a shoe-string budget. All the ingredients used are of organic provenience, fresh, and carefully selected, from local farms.

La Carta Gialla sells premade sandwiches, but you can also create your own sandwich with the ingredients available over the counter. The shop sells delicatessen too.
