Nature, at superlative

Reykjavik is a destination for nature lovers, a family-friendly location that offers some of nature’s most spectacular views: the northern lights, beautiful blue lagoons, whale watching, horseback riding, air tours, boat trips and kayaking on the coast of the fjords. Every district of the city hosts a number of thermal pools, filled with geothermal heated water, and spas offering the renowned all-Icelandic volcanic treatments. Reykjavik boasts an enchanting blend of old timber houses and contemporary architecture, with a cozy atmosphere, vibrant street life, and the best shopping experience in Iceland.

Famous Heart of Reykjavik

Heart of Reykjavik Editors' Note

Reykjavik Harbour was for many years the center of all commercial activity in the city, and indeed, it could be said that it was the heart and soul of this sea-faring nation.

Even today, the harbor is still a very busy one with dozens of ships coming and going each day that will fascinate anyone interested in maritime things.

Most of the vessels arriving and departing the port these days are fishing boats, so it’s no surprise to discover that the city’s biggest fresh market is also lurking around here. Be sure to take a look at this thriving place during your visit to Reykjavik!
