Nature, at superlative

Reykjavik is a destination for nature lovers, a family-friendly location that offers some of nature’s most spectacular views: the northern lights, beautiful blue lagoons, whale watching, horseback riding, air tours, boat trips and kayaking on the coast of the fjords. Every district of the city hosts a number of thermal pools, filled with geothermal heated water, and spas offering the renowned all-Icelandic volcanic treatments. Reykjavik boasts an enchanting blend of old timber houses and contemporary architecture, with a cozy atmosphere, vibrant street life, and the best shopping experience in Iceland.

One of the best ski areas around Reykjavik Editors' Note

The skiing experience in Iceland might not be on quite the same level as the Austrian Alps, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth tasting. At the Bláfjöll Blue Mountains, home of the Bláfjöll Ski Area, you’ll find what’s generally considered to be the best skiing opportunities around Reykjavik.

Bláfjöll Ski Area is very popular with the locals at the weekend, offering a range of slopes that vary in difficulty from beginner to advanced. The slopes are usually open from early January until late April or early May, depending on the weather.

For those who don’t have their own skis, they can hire all the equipment they need here at very reasonable prices. Call ahead for further information or ask at the tourist information office in Reykjavik about how to get there.
