Russia's summer capital

In 2007 when it won the bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, Sochi was famous as the country’s Summer Capital, attracting over 4 million visitors every season. Today? This beautiful seaside resort is a year-round destination. And there’s plenty to add to your Sochi guide, from tours to see Stalinist period Empire Style buildings and monuments, to visits to the fortress; from strolling in the local parks, to learning more about the area in one of Sochi’s museums; and so on. Being a tourist destination, Sochi loves to party, and you will find plenty of things to entertain you. International-standard cuisine completes the experience.

The Sochi Art Museum was built during early Soviet times, in 1936, but interestingly the building itself feels as much a work of art as anything contained within it. The museum looks most ornate and grand thanks to the building’s classical architecture.

Inside, visitors will see the story of Sochi’s extensive past as told by its artists, such as the vivid painting by Isaac Izrailevich Brodsky known as “Italy”, which depicts the area’s renowned health resorts. Many of the exhibits here are changed regularly, rotating between the works of some of Russia’s greats and also some of Sochi’s lesser known but equally talented, local artists.
