Russia's summer capital

In 2007 when it won the bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, Sochi was famous as the country’s Summer Capital, attracting over 4 million visitors every season. Today? This beautiful seaside resort is a year-round destination. And there’s plenty to add to your Sochi guide, from tours to see Stalinist period Empire Style buildings and monuments, to visits to the fortress; from strolling in the local parks, to learning more about the area in one of Sochi’s museums; and so on. Being a tourist destination, Sochi loves to party, and you will find plenty of things to entertain you. International-standard cuisine completes the experience.

World famous teas grown here Editors' Note

Matsesta Tea Garden is most well known for its spas and resorts, but besides that it also has another claim to fame - being home to the world’s northernmost tea plantations, where the unique taste of Matsesta tea has been carefully cultivated for over a hundred years.

There are numerous tea plantations in and around Sochi, but the most convenient (and also one of the more foreigner friendly) to reach is Matsesta Tea Garden, which is owned by the OJSC Matsesta Tea company and located just a few miles west of the city. The entire tea making process takes place right here, with the tea being planted and harvested, then sent off to processing, drying and finally packing.
