Norway's black-gold treasure chest

There’s way more to Stavanger than a hunt for black gold, although the oil capital of Norway is not as popular of a destination as Oslo and Bergen. The city still retains some of its sleepy, provincial charm, but it’s now modern and cosmopolitan, and chock-full of nostalgic attractions and worthwhile treasures. Gamle Stavanger, with its winding streets and wooden houses, is still the main tourist draw. The fjords and scenic nature, however, are second-to-none, and there’s enough entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

One of the best watering holes in Stavanger if you like beer. Very British, but completely Norwegian and a beer loves dream! I think they have several hundred – like 500 (???) beer available. Great ambiance for those who like it casual and wanna chill.

If bigger is better, Cardinal is the place to beat! The beer menu (as of right now) consists of 558 beers from around the world, and in fact boasts the largest selection in Norway. No room at the bar? Head up the stairs; there’s another floor with its own bar and a very knowledgable staff that can help you navigate through the dizzying array of brews. Must-try: Cardinal has a range of custom brews made by well-known breweries such as Amager Bryghus, Mikkeller, and Aegir Bryggeri.

Largest beer selection in Norway Editors' Note

Bar and pub Cardinal is famous for its enormous beer selection. With over 600 different types on tap and in bottles they have the largest beer menu in the entire country. The interior reminds of a traditional Victorian pub, with dark accents, comfy couches and beautiful decorations.

They not only offer a never ending beer list, but you can join a tasting session too. The staff knows all about beers from Norway and outside the country, so don’t be afraid to ask.

The superb location, right in the heart of the city, makes it impossible to miss.
