Live, breathe, eat Vancouver

Consistently voted among the best cities in the world to live in, Vancouver is visually stunning, from its snow-capped mountains to its sandy beaches on the edge of Pacific waters. Despite its laid-back culture, there is a genuine fizz of creative energy, which can be seen in the constant building work and artistic endeavour across the city, not least in its kitchens. This young city has much to offer everyone, from shopping to skiing, to just sightseeing, plain and simple.

A trip to Vancouver is not complete without sushi, a food that is found on almost every corner of the city. Shi Zen Ya is my absolute favourite place for Japanese food, and prides itself on being the first chain of natural Japanese food in North America. Shi Zen Ya sushi is additive free, made with certified organic brown rice that has been soaked and sprouted, features lots of certified organic and locally grown greens which makes for a superior fresh authentically healthy taste.

Stay.com Editors' Note

Shizen Ya is the second restaurant of the brand, on Broadway. The flagship Shizen Ya restaurant can be found at 985 Hornby St.. All restaurants serve Japanese fare.

What makes Shizen Ya stand out is that this is the first Japanese restaurant in North America to serve exclusively natural foods: for example, sushi is served only with brown rice, and everything else is prepared with organic ingredients.
