A city for all seasons

Home of the Habsburgs, the capital of classical music, and the multicultural melting pot of Mitteleuropa, Vienna is one of Europe’s most fascinating cities. Its slow-paced life, architectural variety, and intensely seasonal cultural and gastronomic pleasures make Vienna an ideal destination for visitors. Get ready for balmy summer evenings at wine taverns, mugs of mulled wine at Christmas markets, and strolls through historic streets.

One of the busiest Opera Houses in the World Editors' Note

The Vienna State Opera House (Wiener Staatsoper) in center city has a history dating to the 19th century. This opera house/opera company produces 50 to 60 operas a year. The 200 performances annually include daily shows for 10 months. Special events include opera for children and an opera ball.

The opera house is closely related to the Vienna Philhamonic. Rich programming, an opera school, ballet school, matinees, and premieres add to the popularity of the Vienna State Opera House. There is also a museum, open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm, which showcases 140 years of opera house history.
